What is Glutathione?

Glutathione is endogenous tripeptide antioxidant (thiol), and that classification is where the published work starts. Its molecular weight is 307.3 g/mol. The name covers the same material written several ways in the literature, including GSH, reduced glutathione and L-glutathione. Its sequence is recorded as γ-Glu-Cys-Gly: the glutamate is linked through its side-chain (gamma) carboxyl, not the usual peptide bond. Published work on it is in human. 7 of the 7 studies listed below are controlled trials in people. Borealis Peptides supplies it as lyophilised powder in 600 mg vials for in-vitro laboratory research. Nothing here is a medicine; it is not for human or veterinary use.

Cascinu S et al.2002 · J Clin Oncol · PMID 12177109Human, randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial (n=52), advanced colorectal cancer on oxaliplatin1,500 mg/m² by intravenous infusion over 15 minutes before each oxaliplatin doseBimonthly oxaliplatin regimen, assessed after 4, 8 and 12 cyclesGrade 2–4 neuropathy occurred in 2 patients on GSH vs 11 on placebo (P = .003), and after 12 cycles in 3 vs 8 (P = .004). Tumour response was 26.9% vs 23.1%, so GSH did not reduce oxaliplatin activity.
Tanzilli G et al.2019 · BMJ Open · PMID 31399448Human, randomised controlled pilot trial (n=50), STEMI patients undergoing primary angioplasty2,500 mg in 25 mL by intravenous infusion over 10 minutes before the procedure, repeated at 24, 48 and 72 hours4 infusions over 72 hours; blood sampled up to 5 daysAfter reperfusion the GSH group had lower H2O2 production and 8-iso-PGF2α and higher H2O2 breakdown activity and nitric oxide bioavailability than placebo. Lower H2O2 production persisted to day 5 and tracked troponin T levels.

Levels returned to baseline after washout, and natural killer cytotoxicity more than doubled at 3 months on the high dose.

Muscle GSH rose about 19% (numerically only), and mitochondrial H2O2 emission and urinary oxidation markers did not change.

Its effect was significantly better than placebo and than either ingredient alone.

What these studies don't show: The controlled evidence is real but covers a specific setting. Selected groups and surrogate endpoints limit how far these findings reach. Nothing here speaks to use outside the trial protocol. Knowing the vial holds what the label says is not the same as knowing the compound does anything.

Is Glutathione available in Canada?

Glutathione appears in the Drug Product Database only in ophthalmic irrigating solutions such as BSS PLUS and NAVSTEL, and in an oral vitamin product. No authorized injectable glutathione product is listed. So no authorized Glutathione product exists in Canada. Borealis Peptides supplies it as research material for in-vitro laboratory use only. Glutathione FAQ

What is Glutathione?

The literature describes Glutathione as endogenous tripeptide antioxidant (thiol). The published work on it is in human. Borealis Peptides supplies it as lyophilised powder in 600 mg vials for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not a drug, and it is not supplied for use in a person or an animal. Every reference here is listed with the model it ran in and the finding as published.

Where can I buy Glutathione in Canada?

Borealis Peptides ships Glutathione from Canadian stock to research and business addresses in Canada. It is held in 600 mg vials. Every batch is tested by HPLC and the certificate names the batch in your vial. Orders are accepted for laboratory research only.

Is Glutathione legal in Canada?

Glutathione appears in the Drug Product Database only in ophthalmic irrigating solutions such as BSS PLUS and NAVSTEL, and in an oral vitamin product. No authorized injectable glutathione product is listed. So no authorized Glutathione product exists in Canada. Borealis Peptides supplies it as research material for in-vitro laboratory use only. Health Canada has said that "Research Use Only" labelling does not make a product legal to use in a person, so we treat it as a description of what the material is supplied for rather than a permission.

How much Glutathione should I use?

We do not answer dosing questions. Glutathione is not supplied for use in a person or an animal, so there is no dose to describe. What this page carries is the amount each cited study used and the model it used it in, reproduced as the authors published it.

What human evidence is there for Glutathione?

Of the 7 studies cited, 7 are controlled trials in people and the rest are animal or cell work. Each row names its model, the amount used and what the authors reported, so the weight of each study can be judged directly rather than through a summary.

Does Glutathione need refrigeration?

Hold sealed vials at −20 °C, dry and dark. Once reconstituted, 2–8 °C. The lyophilised powder tolerates ambient temperature in transit, so it ships without ice and goes into the fridge on arrival. Keeping it dark and at a steady temperature matters more than how fast it arrived.

How is the purity of Glutathione confirmed?

Identity and purity are confirmed by HPLC for each batch, not once per product. The certificate names the batch it belongs to, and that batch number is on the vial, so a result can be traced back to the exact material that produced it. Ask with your order number and we send it.

How does Glutathione compare with NAD+ and SS-31?

They are not interchangeable, and this page makes no claim that one is preferable. NAD+ and SS-31 have 8 cited studies and 7 cited studies on their page against 7 here. What separates them is the published work, which both pages set out in full.
