What is DSIP?
DSIP is a neuropeptide (nonapeptide; receptor not identified). Its molecular weight is About 849 g/mol (MW 849 as reported by Graf et al., 1984). The name covers the same material written several ways in the literature, including Delta sleep-inducing peptide, Delta-sleep-inducing peptide and Emideltide. Its sequence is recorded as Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu (WAGGDASGE), linear. Published work on it is in human. 7 of the 8 studies listed below are controlled trials in people. Supplied as lyophilised powder in 10 mg vials, held in Canadian stock, for laboratory research. It is not a drug, and it is not supplied for use in a person or an animal.
What the research shows
| Study | Model | Dose used | Duration | Finding |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bes F et al.1992 · Neuropsychobiology · PMID 1299794 | Human, double-blind randomised matched-pairs trial in chronic insomnia (n=16) | 25 nmol/kg intravenous DSIP or glucose placebo | Given the afternoon before nights 3, 4 and 5 of a 5-night laboratory stay | Sleep efficiency was higher and sleep latency shorter with DSIP, but the effects were weak and partly explained by a change in the placebo group. Subjective sleep quality did not change, and the authors concluded short-term DSIP is unlikely to be of major therapeutic benefit. |
| Monti JM et al.1987 · Int J Clin Pharmacol Res · PMID 3583493 | Human, double-blind crossover trial in chronic insomnia (n not stated in the abstract) | 25 nmol/kg intravenous or placebo | 4 nights | Total sleep time and NREM time rose, driven by stage 2 sleep, while slow-wave and REM sleep did not change. Differences from placebo already existed at baseline, and the authors judged the improvement of little clinical significance. |
| Schneider-Helmert D1987 · Eur Neurol · PMID 3622582 | Human, placebo-controlled double-blind trial in severe chronic insomnia (n=14) | Not stated in the abstract | 7 successive nights, plus a placebo night afterwards | Night sleep improved with the first dose and further with repeated doses, and the effect held on the first placebo night. Daytime alertness and performance increased significantly. |
| Schneider-Helmert D et al.1981 · Int J Clin Pharmacol Ther Toxicol · PMID 6895513 | Human, double-blind crossover in healthy volunteers (n=6) | 25 nmol/kg slow intravenous infusion, in the morning | Single infusion, sleep followed into the next night | Median total sleep time rose 59% within 130 minutes compared with placebo, without classic sedation on EEG and behavioural tests. The next night showed shorter sleep onset and better sleep efficiency, and no side effects were observed. |
| Pomfrett CJ et al.2009 · Eur J Anaesthesiol · PMID 19142086 | Human, randomised controlled trial in women under isoflurane anaesthesia (n=24; 12 DSIP, 12 saline) | Intravenous bolus of 25, 50 or 100 nmol/kg | Two doses: awake and after induction of anaesthesia | DSIP raised heart rate, lowered heart rate variability and, against the authors' hypothesis, reduced EEG delta rhythm and raised bispectral index at 25 nmol/kg, suggesting lighter anaesthesia. |
| Chiodera P et al.1994 · Horm Res · PMID 7698722 | Human, placebo-controlled trial in healthy men (n=8, plus 7 in a second arm) | 25 nmol/kg intravenous over 10 minutes | Single infusion before 2-hour saline or hypertonic saline, or an orthostatic test | DSIP significantly lowered ACTH but did not change basal vasopressin or the vasopressin rise after hypertonic saline or standing. |
| Späth-Schwalbe E et al.1995 · Psychoneuroendocrinology · PMID 7777652 | Human, placebo-controlled studies in healthy young men (n=5 per CRH condition; n=10 meal study) | Total 3 or 4 mg intravenous infusion | From 30 minutes before to 90 minutes after CRH injection; single session | ACTH and cortisol responses to CRH and to a midday meal were almost identical with DSIP and placebo. The authors say the data do not support an inhibitory role of DSIP on ACTH and cortisol in man. |
| Giusti M et al.1993 · Psychoneuroendocrinology · PMID 8475226 | Human, controlled study in healthy women (n=8) | 25 micrograms/kg intravenous over 30 minutes (or 1 hour in the circadian arm) | Single infusions | DSIP did not change basal growth hormone or prolactin, their circadian rhythm, or their response to arginine. |
What these studies don't show: Trials exist; their scope is narrower than it first appears. Participants are screened, many endpoints are proxies, and most trials end early. Results hold for the setting studied and no further. What the HPLC trace shows is content, which is a separate question from efficacy.

DSIP FAQ
What is DSIP?
Suppliers and the literature both list DSIP as a neuropeptide (nonapeptide; receptor not identified). The published work on it is in human. Borealis Peptides supplies it as lyophilised powder in 10 mg vials for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not authorized as a medicine and is not for use in any living subject. The studies behind it are listed on this page with the model each used and what the authors reported.
Where can I buy DSIP in Canada?
Borealis Peptides ships DSIP from Canadian stock to research and business addresses in Canada. It is held in 10 mg vials. Every batch is tested by HPLC and the certificate names the batch in your vial. Orders are accepted for laboratory research only.
Is DSIP legal in Canada?
DSIP does not appear in the Drug Product Database as an authorized product. It has had no safety, efficacy or quality review from Health Canada. Borealis Peptides holds it for in-vitro research; it is not supplied for use in any living subject. Health Canada has said that "Research Use Only" labelling does not make a product legal to use in a person, so we treat it as a description of what the material is supplied for rather than a permission. Lawful use in your own setting is yours to establish.
How much DSIP should I use?
Borealis Peptides gives no dosing, protocols or reconstitution volumes, and will not provide them on request. In laboratory work the amount follows from the study design, which a supplier cannot sensibly set. The figures on this page are what specific published studies used in their own models: a record of what was done, not a recommendation.
What human evidence is there for DSIP?
Of the 8 studies cited, 7 are controlled trials in people and the rest are animal or cell work. Each row names its model, the amount used and what the authors reported, so the weight of each study can be judged directly rather than through a summary.
How long does DSIP keep?
Unopened, keep it at −20 °C in the dark. Once reconstituted, 2–8 °C. Ambient transit does not harm the dry powder, which should be refrigerated once received. Light and repeated warming do more damage than the journey. Testing is batch by batch, so the certificate matches the vial rather than the product line.
How is the purity of DSIP confirmed?
Identity and purity are confirmed by HPLC for each batch, not once per product. The certificate names the batch it belongs to, and that batch number is on the vial, so a result can be traced back to the exact material that produced it. Ask with your order number and we send it.
How does DSIP compare with Epitalon and Selank?
They are different compounds with different published records, and this site does not rank them. Epitalon and Selank have 8 cited studies and 8 cited studies on their page against 8 here. Reading both tables, with the models each used, is the comparison worth making.
Why is DSIP named in a Health Canada advisory?
Because it was among the peptides seized from sellers offering unauthorized injectable products online. The advisory concerns material sold for people to inject without authorization. Borealis Peptides supplies research material for laboratory use and sells nothing for injection or for any use in a person, which is the line that advisory draws.
