FAQ
What is bacteriostatic water used for?
In laboratory work it is the diluent for lyophilised peptides. The benzyl alcohol is a bacteriostatic preservative, which is what separates it from plain sterile water and allows a vial to be entered more than once.
What is the difference between BAC water and sterile water?
Sterile water has no preservative, so a vial is single-use. Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth and allows repeated withdrawal from the same vial.
Which products need bacteriostatic water?
Only the lyophilised vials, which arrive as a dry powder. Nasal sprays ship as a finished solution and capsules are a dry oral format, so neither takes any liquid.
Do you ship bacteriostatic water across Canada?
Yes, from Canadian stock to research and business addresses, with the rest of your order. It travels at room temperature.
